LoNdon to lagos Project
Bridging the gap.
We’re back, with another epic cycle tour from London, UK to Lagos, Nigeria. The journey started June 1st 2023, showcasing adventure is for all and raising money to support BMXer’s and road cyclists in Lagos. Follow the journey on social media.
The History
The London to Lagos project was set up to bridge the gap between native living and diasporic Nigerians. Recognizing the opportunity presented to Nigerians born or living outside of Nigeria, the desire to share opportunities was an instinctive and natural direction for My Choice.
The mission started with Temi Lateef, the My Choice founder, finding a video of Temi ‘Starboy’ Matthew, the Lagos BMX Crew founder online. the two Temi’s connected and were inspired by one another’s passions to bring out-of-this-world ideas to life.
L2L has since served a wider purpose, inspiring adventure among many. Especially among people who have long sought representation in the adventure space, including people affected by their immigration status or discriminatory boarder controls, financial difficulty, or the absence of role models connected to underrepresented communities.
In 2019, and 2022 (after the pandemic) My Choice have worked directly with Lagos BMX crew to expand the reach of their annual BMX day. Supporting BMX riders from across Nigeria, Benin and other surrounding countries, to attend and showcase West African BMXing talent, providing strategic, fundraising, financial and operational support to the crew.
What Next?
My Choice are collaborating with a number of actors in the African bike riding and road cycling scene to create more opportunities for Nigerian based bike riders to progress to elite level. We seek to support the primary actors in the Nigerian bike scene; athletes, coaches and the wider community whose support encourage political movement, to build the infrastructure necessary in facilitating the growth of bike sports.
In addition to this, we are leading the development of an Olympic-ready BMX team. The Olympics isn’t just a dream, it is attainable, providing the right support is made available to the talented sportsmen and women we are working with.
